Richard was a dog who was crawling over stones to walk. When rescuers found him, he appeared to be walking on bended knees, praying to be saved.
Rescuers flew to Greece from Spain just for Richard. They were hoping that they could help him walk and experience running on all fours. After they picked up Richard in a shelter, rescuers flew him right back to Spain and straight to a hospital. They couldn’t wait to determine if an operation on his legs would still work.
A team of specialists performed various tests on Richard’s legs, including an x-ray, and a CT scan. Everyone prayed for a bit of hope that Richard could walk and run just like any normal dog could. Finally, they got him ready for surgery. The procedure was a complex one, but with the best surgeons and team around, the operation was bound to be a success.
And it was. Richard’s twisted legs were installed with metal to help keep him upright and support his weight. A full recovery for Richard was not too far away.
After a successful operation, all that was left was a speedy recovery. Everything from that moment on was up to the brave dog. For what could be a first for him since birth, Richard, the unfortunate dog who was crawling before, is now walking on all fours. Slowly but surely, Richard is learning how to walk properly.
It must’ve felt different for Richard. Gone is the abandoned, depressed dog in Greece, kneeling on rocks, begging for help, and love. In his place is a playful and happy mutt, excitedly rediscovering the joys of being a dog. Richard is bravely running towards a new life.
His mom flew all the way to Spain to take him home. Getting to run on all fours, a roof above his head, a playmate, and a loving family, there is nothing left for our dog, Richard to ask for.
