Some dogs are lucky to have a family to depend on, someone to love, to protect, and spend time with. They can also accompany their humans through thick and thin.
So, for a dog who’s used to living in comfort all his life with his furry parent, we’re sure that a sudden loss will break their hearts into pieces. Their resilience is unbelievable, and this story will make you believe so.
Banks lived a life full of love and attention. There was never a day where he won’t feel appreciated. In return, he stayed with his furry parent through sickness and health. However, everything changed when his owner suddenly left him inside the car.
Two days passed, and finally, a curious woman approached the car and saw the dehydrated Banks inside. Knowing the dangers of leaving dogs inside the vehicle, the woman immediately called the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
The moment they arrived, they freed Banks and gave him water. They also tried to find out who owned the vehicle. After a thorough investigation, the respective authorities found out that the owner had just recently died of suicide.
With nowhere to go, Humboldt County Animal Shelter took Banks in. At first, they contacted the nearest family. However, the owner’s family could not take care of the 15-year-old Banks and asked the shelter to find him home instead.
The shelter worked on finding his forever family. They tried matching potential adopters to him, but nothing worked.
Thankfully, a shelter assistant remembered about one already qualified adopter who wanted to find a friendly senior dog. The adopter’s name was Meredith Maier, the co-owner of the dog-friendly eatery, Six Rivers Brewery.
Meredith has long since been looking for the perfect match for her. After hearing Banks’ story, she knew he was meant to be with her.
We’re happy to know that Banks is now under the comfort of Meredith. May he live his life peacefully and without any more distress.
Thanks to Six Rivers Brewery and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for the photos.
