The incredible rescue operation that went down during this year’s May 14 International Chihuahua Appreciation Day has given dog lovers more reason to celebrate, especially those from the Helen Woodward Animal Center. This is because an astounding sixty (60) Chihuahuas were saved from an animal hoarder in Bakersfield.
The center was alerted about the situation mid-February, but it took a while for the rescue to be planned out. They had to find all those doggies places to go to once they were safe from their current state. So, the center partnered with other rescues and local animal shelters to take part in the rescue mission.
Rescues such as Bakersfield Animal Care Center, Palm Springs Animal Shelter, and Please Help! Animal Solutions, among others, all pooled their resources together and were able to get all sixty of the Chihuahuas out of their horrible hoarding situation and brought to safer places. Most of the doggies that they got were already about two years old, and almost all of them needed to get spayed or neutered. Some of them also had other medical concerns that needed to be addressed.
With the help of so many dog-loving volunteers from all the rescues, all of the doggies’ needs were met. They were also able to recuperate from their traumas as they stayed in the shelters who partnered up for the rescue mission. It took some time after their rescue for them to get used to the love and care that the various shelters showered on to them. Once they did, their social tendencies towards people, and they were ready to find their forever homes.
The efforts of all the shelters in making sure all those hoarded Chihuahuas had a chance for a better life was truly the best way to celebrate them for International Chihuahua Appreciation Day! These pups are sure to have better tomorrows because of them.
