A surprise greeted a veterinarian in Antigua when he found a cardboard box sitting on his doorstep. Inside the box was a little puppy who had a wrinkled forehead and a permanent squint on her face. As soon as he saw the pup, he knew she was special.
So the veterinarian contacted a local rescue center called Dogs and Cats of Antigua who’s staff members immediately came to pick up the pup from him. They then named the pup Faith. Faith was missing her eyes and was very malnourished, but that didn’t stop them from helping her have a new start in life.
Kate Venezia, the pup’s foster mom, said that normally when a special needs pup like Faith is brought to the rescue centers on the island, they are usually put to sleep. She explains that it is because of the limited number of adopters and funds to care for special needs pups on the island. But the staff members in Dogs and Cats of Antigua did not give up on Faith.
They paid for her vet bills, fostered her, and even made arrangements with the island’s government to let the pup fly to the US to get better medical treatment. Kate said that when the pup arrived at her house, she was amazed by her determination to roam around even if she couldn’t see. Faith was fearless and was able to navigate around the rooms at Kate’s house.
Kate said that nothing seemed to faze the pup. Even if she hits something, she moves on and keeps going. Faith uses her nose and ears to navigate around the house and go to her favorite spot, which is wherever Kate is. The pup would stick her cute nose upwards and try to locate Kate through her scent.
After completing her medical test at Animal Haven, a rescue center based in NYC, the pup was officially declared ready for adoption. The center then posted adorable photos of Faith on Facebook, and it didn’t take long before tons of people started sending their applications to the center. We all hope that Faith will find the perfect family who will always stay by her side and love her for who she is.
