When we allot a special space in our lives for dogs, we create openings for deep connections with these beings. Our relationship usually starts with us teaching them basic command and them giving us a crash course on patience. As things progress and relationships deepen, we begin seeing them as more than just pets. We start seeing them as our soulmates.
Interestingly, dogs feel the same way about us. This explains why there’s always that one person they look for or spend time with during the most part of their day. In a way, this is also the reason why we see photos of dogs bawling and getting all wiggly when they finally reunite with their humans after an awfully long time.
Suffice to say, the bond dogs have with their owners goes beyond the physical realm. In some cases, it transcends lifetimes. Such is the case of Totó, a beautiful Labrador from San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina.
Waiting in vain
When Totó’s fur dad was rushed to the hospital, volunteers made sure he was by his side to comfort him. They took him to the Pablo Soria Hospital, where his human was confined. He knew something was up, but he focused all his energy on making his fur dad happy since that was what he needed at that time.
When heaven’s gates opened and welcomed Totó’s fur dad, the doctors and hospital staff didn’t know how to break the news to him. He was staying at his spot near the hospital exit when the whole thing happened.
The poor thing continued waiting even though weeks had already passed since his owner’s death. The hospital staff tried to reach out to the man’s family, but none of them wanted to have anything to do with him.
A home for Totó
People who caught wind of Totó’s story decided to take matters into their own hands. They took him to the vet to have him treated and helped find a forever home for him.
