A 15-year-old dog was surrendered last October to the Broward County’s Humane Society in Florida. But instead of it becoming a heartbreaking moment, it was in fact the best possible opportunity for the pup. The senior Chihuahua mix did not need a new forever family because he happened to have one already. In fact, they have been looking for him for six long years.
When the shelter scanned the microchip embedded in the little brown pup for identification, they learned that his name was King and that he was owned by the Vasquez family over in Texas. They immediately called the contact number listed on the information but since no one picked up, they explained on the voicemail that King was now at the animal shelter. The family called the shelter back within the same hour expressing their joy over the good news.
According to his family, King has been missing for six years after disappearing from the family’s yard. They did everything they could to look for him using flyers and social media but to no avail. They have also been consistently checking the local animal shelters in San Antonio hoping to find him there. But despite the negative results of their efforts, they never lost hope.
As soon as they learned about King’s reappearance, they made arrangements to bring him home. Even the lack of available immediate flights to Florida did not dampen their excitement. Debie Vasquez together with her daughter drove more than 1,300 miles for almost 20 hours to fetch their beloved pet.
Cherie Wachter, Marketing VP of the shelter, described King as a very sweet but quiet and subdued dog when he arrived at their facility. The little pooch was understandably shocked when Debi and Danae finally met with him after so many years of being apart. They even brought King’s original collar which they kept to remind them to never lose hope in finding him.
Happy tears overflowed during the reunion which you can watch below. The family also brought King to the beach to celebrate and Cherie commented on how amazing it was to witness the change in King’s demeanor. The little pup has finally realized that he was back with his forever family and he couldn’t be any happier.
